Vista cannot see all computers on network

Polecatt 2 Bronze. Don't forget to allow sharing in the windows firewall-you have to check it as it is blocked by default I believe. Nigie 2 Bronze. Then, one day I left the network screen on, and after about an hour, low and behold, the other PCs and printer appeared, and access between all was fine.

I have this issue every time I boot up. I keep refreshing the network screen, and after about 20 - 30 refreshes, and the green progress bar moving slowly across the screen, the other PCs become accessible. It puzzles me, but with the other Vista issues I have had, Im thankful that at least I get some connectivity at all. Found this link to microsoft community forum. Several discussions on your problem here. One suggestion was to download this software, which apparently should be installed on all non vista machines for vista to recognise them on a network.

Hope this is some help. I will try your suggestions. Yesterday, for some odd reason, Vista started seeing the network. Still haven't figured out what if anything I did to make that happen. Have one more Vista machine to hook in so fingers crossed! Windows can see my macbook pro.

The mac book pro can see windows xp, but can not see windows vista. I've tried everything with no luck. Can anyone tell me or give me a step by step on how to get my macbook pro to do what I want it to do. This is my first mac.

Thanks in advance -Michel. Thank you for the reply; however, my vista machine has no firewall.. The firewall is disabled, and the vista machine is wide open.. It is shared and is not password protected? The it can see every computer that is xp base. Joined Aug 14, Messages 10 Reaction score 0 Points 1. I have the same problem. Now I have changed to an Airport Extreme the latest model and for the life of me, I cannot connect to the Vista machine.

I do the same exact things and config, and no way!!! And both macs and the Vista machine are wired on the network anyway I am still having the problem. I installed a domain controller Windows Server hoping that joining the domain and having a WINS server would fix the problem, but it didn't. I don't see any computers in the domain.

I did a nslookup on all the computers that are windows based, and it works perfectly. It is at a lost cause. I thought macs were suppose to be easy?? To allow Vista to access other computers on your network and vice versa, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, choose Control Panel. Click the "Customize" link to the right of the network heading.

Set the network to "Private", click Next, and then Close. After doing so, I encountered an error message saying: The specified service does not exist as an installed service. What can I do?
